Scott Shields is an architecture/nature/landscape/street/night sky photographer based out of Detroit, Michigan. With almost 50 years of photography experience from darkroom to Lightroom, he has traveled extensively in North America, Europe, Japan, and Africa. After retiring from the auto industry in 2020, Scott immersed himself in a new career of personal travel photography, teaching photography classes and leading photo workshops. “I’ve learned so much as a student of Bryan Peterson. It was his book “Understanding Composition Field Guide: How to See and Photograph Images with Impact” that really unlocked my photographic eye.” To see Scott’s “eye”, check out his social media at: Facebook.com/scott.shields.31 or Instagram @scottshieldsphoto
I really prefer small workshops. Preferably we are all in one vehicle so that we can all experience the sights and locations together. Driving workshops are generally limited to 6 participants and walking workshops in the city have a maximum of 8 participants. I think the smaller number is more manageable and allows for more interaction as a group for questions or instructions.
I love to explore new places. Travel photography is a dream come true for me.
I have a real passion for photography and love to share my knowledge to those that have interest to learn.
I try to tailor my instruction to each student's knowledge level. I'll frequently ask for input if you're getting what images that you want, reviewing images and I'm always available to answer questions as needed.
I do photograph during the workshops, but only after everyone is settled and mostly to provide examples of what I'm seeing.
I always love feedback; good or bad. Suggestions for other locations are welcomed. Please use my email below.
