Birding in Florida? Yes, Please.I haven't been a bird photographer for long, but Florida is where I fell in love with it. The sheer variety — species, locations, lighting conditions, behavior, nesting, courtship, young being reared — makes it a photographic candy store for any photographer willing to show up and pay attention.Locations, Locations, LocationsWe'll hit some of the best spots on Florida's Space Coast: Merritt Island, Orlando Wetlands, Bair's Cove, Black Point Drive, Cruickshank Sanctuary, Sebastian Inlet, Blue Cypress Lake, and more. I'll be scouting the week before the workshop to make sure we're working with the latest birding intel — where the action is, and where the light will be best.Birding ExpertiseJoining me on this trip is Laurie Pocher, Vice President of the York County (Maine) Audubon and co-Coordinator of the Maine Young Birders Club. Laurie brings deep field knowledge — she'll help us find the birds and understand what they're doing once we're there. Not to mention being a crack shot at photography.Photography ExpertiseThat's where I come in. Reflections, composition, working with changing light, focus strategies, and knowing when to reach for auto mode versus when to take control manually — I'll be right there with you, helping you make the right call in the moment.Putting It All TogetherThe heart of great bird photography is combining the two: knowing bird behavior well enough to anticipate the pose before it happens, and having the camera skills — the right lens, settings, and position — to actually capture it when it does. That's what this workshop is built around.A Typical DayWe'll be up early to catch the golden light and peak bird activity, heading out around sunrise to one of our prime locations — timing it so we're in position before the birds are. Mid-morning, as the light gets harsher, we'll break for a relaxed lunch and talk through the morning's shots. Afternoons shift to a second location, chosen for different light and different species, with time built in for reflections, flight shots, and behavior work as conditions allow. As the sun drops, we'll post up somewhere with good evening light for a final push before wrapping the day — with time in the evening to review images together and talk through what worked.Ready to Fill Your Camera's Card with Florida's Best?Spots on this small-group workshop are limited, which means more one-on-one time in the field with both Laurie and me.
