Holland: Tulips, Windmills & Amsterdam
Holland's tulips have always been on my list, but it wasn't until I took over Bryan F. Peterson's North Holland workshop that I discovered just how much I'd fall for this place. There are massive fields of tulips in every direction, in every color imaginable, stretching to the horizon in tidy rows. The people are generous and kind to visitors, and the tulip farmers are remarkably welcoming to respectful photographers working their land. The scenery — old windmills, dikes, and quiet canals — is breathtaking in the soft light of morning and evening. Long rows of trees throw beautiful shadows and clean backgrounds perfect for graphic compositions. And on the rare foggy morning, the light turns so magical you'll wish it would never lift. The photographic possibilities here are genuinely endless.
Amsterdam: A City Built for Photographers
In this 5-day workshop, we'll also take the local train into Amsterdam to explore one of Europe's most beautiful cities on foot. Canals threaded with boats, bicycles leaning against every railing, iconic houses that tilt gently into the streets, centuries-old churches, and lively squares will overwhelm you with subjects at every turn. We'll use the city as a classroom for the art of seeing — training your eye to find compositions in chaos — as well as technique-focused sessions on panning and intentional motion blur to bring Amsterdam's energy to life in your images.
Keukenhof Gardens: 7 Million Tulips
If that's not enough tulips for you, we'll also travel to Keukenhof Gardens — the largest flower garden in the world, with over 7 million tulips arranged in sweeping plots and intricate patterns. Keukenhof gives us access to an extraordinary variety of easily accessible subjects, from wide sweeping landscapes to intimate details to true macro work. In our 4-6 hour visit, you'll cover less than half of what Keukenhof has to offer — it's that vast, and that rich with material.
Ready to Photograph Holland in Bloom?
This workshop blends the quiet, golden-light beauty of the Dutch countryside with the vibrant street life of Amsterdam and the sheer floral spectacle of Keukenhof — five days, three completely different photographic worlds. Spots are limited to keep the group small and personal. If you're ready to walk tulip fields at sunrise, chase reflections along Amsterdam's canals, and lose yourself in millions of blooms, reach out today to reserve your place.
